Breaking Down the Numbers
- Packets: 9 sent, 9 received → 0% loss ✅
- Latency:
- Min: 37.7 ms
- Avg: 41.3 ms
- Max: 47.5 ms
- Jitter (mdev): ~3 ms
What This Means
Starlink continues to impress. Getting a 40 ms average latency on a satellite link is a big leap forward from the days of traditional satellite internet where pings often hovered around 600 ms or higher.
For my setup here in Newtown, this means video calls, online gaming, and day-to-day work tasks feel responsive. Even compared to some rural DSL or wireless ISPs, these numbers hold up — and in many cases, beat them.
Conclusion
Although this post is going up a bit late, these results are representative of the solid Starlink performance I saw in Newtown. Reliable pings, low jitter, and zero packet loss made for a smooth experience — even while running my cluster and homelab projects remotely.
